showers of love

As a mama-to-be, one of the many things I looked forward to was my baby shower. If you've known me anytime, you know that I LOVE parties, so it's not much of a surprise that I would be pretty excited about my baby shower! One thing I love about baby showers in particular are all of the cute things for babies. But, beyond all of the material things, I was really excited about celebrating with family and friends.

I've told my friends this time and time again, but my shower was amazing! The food, decorations, games and turnout was great! Sean and I felt so incredibly blessed by everyone who came to celebrate and for all of the wonderful gifts that we received!

Here are just a few pics of the day:

oh baby...22 weeks!

Not sure if there's much of a difference, but here goes the belly shot:

I guess my hubs got the inspiration to snap a photo when we were in Sam's Club! He kept commenting on how big my belly looked :) Baby Love is growing, that's for sure!

Oh baby...21 weeks!

With each passing day, my belly is starting to expand, which is really exciting and a bit frightening!  EXCITING, because it took over 4 months for me to actually look pregnant and FRIGHTENING, because this belly of mine is starting to grow at an exponential rate. I'll be sure to share more about these changes.

Given the "recent" change in my physique, let the baby bump photos commence...

Here's the bump at...

my girl!

Many of you may have seen our announcement on Facebook:

We are having a girl and our ENTIRE family is elated! If you've read my other blog, you probably know that I have two brothers and SIX nephews [yes, six]! Sean's side of the family is also predominately male with four boys and one girl. So, needless to say, it's time for some estrogen!

Since we sent the announcement to family and friends, we've done a few things in preparation for Baby Love.  We had small group at our house the day we found out, but shortly after it was over, we ran to Kohl's to grab a few girly clothes.  Shopping for the first time was an interesting experience. Up until last week, we would just go and look at everything and talk about what we would like to get if we had a boy or girl.  Last Wednesday, all of the restrictions were gone and we had the hardest time finding something to get. That quickly ended the next day when I remembered I could finally get the one item I had been swooning over...Baby Legs.  If you've never heard of them, you can thank me later. Introducing Baby Legs, which happen to be just as adorable for boys, too:

I think they are the cutest little things EVER! Instead of buying every pair they had, we used a bit of self control and just bought a couple of the newborn sets.  I was really excited to find out they had newborn sizes, since the standard size would initially be too big.

As Sean says, Baby Love already has more clothes than he does [which I must say is not just our doing...our parents have definitely contributed to her wardrobe and sent us pics of the stuff they got]...so cute!

Last Saturday, we painted the nursery, with the help of some friends! My main responsibility was to make breakfast and to direct [the latter was a self appointed responsibility]. The nursery looks great and is now ready for furniture and design. Here's a pic of our friends working hard in the nursery [sadly, I didn't take a picture of the room once it was done]:

Stay tuned for more updates!
~ One happy mama :)

overwhelmed with excitement

Friends, today marks my 19th week, which means I am only seven days shy of finding out if our Baby Love is a girl or boy...yippeee!

I really have no clue who's more excited, me or the hubs! He sent me a message yesterday slightly freaking out that the halfway point is near and we are that much closer to finding out!

Let's hope and pray that s/he is happily exposed [this one time] for mama and daddy!

So, I'm interested to hear what YOU think we're having...

Most of the opinions have been in favor of a girl, but yesterday I was told by two different people that they thought we were having a boy! Of course, we will be elated either way, but it is fun to guess!

So what do you think?

first baby gift...yippeee!

So we got home last night and saw an Amazon package on our doorstep... Initially, we thought our little sis [who lives with us right now] ordered something, but as I picked up the box, I noticed it was addressed to us! If you've read my original blog for anytime, you know how much I love surprises.  Seeing a gift was music to my ears!

Could this be for the baby?!?!

With much anticipation, we opened the box to find this treasure:

How adorably cute is this?! It's a mix between journal and scrapbook, with hundreds of fill in the blanks about your first experiences, as well as cute stickers and slots for pictures.  It's the perfect way to capture every moment of our pregnancy...Let's just say, I'm gonna LOVE this!

Thanks so much Auntie Susie!

a whole new world

Recently, the hubs and I went to Buy Buy Baby to look at all things baby...well, let me rephrase that, we went looking at bedding and furniture, but discovered so much more.

My experience walking into this store was far from what I expected. For some reason, I thought that we were innocently walking into just another small departmental store, but it was quite the contrary.  When I think about it, I felt much like I did when I first ventured into the IKEA store in Shaumburg, IL...overwhelmed! Lucky for us, we quickly met a sales rep who was quite excited about the baby infused place and wanted to give us the 411 on the store layout, as well as what items we needed to buy and those that were just suggestions.

We started our exploration much like any tourist does at a museum she knows nothing about...just go to the nearest exhibit. And that's exactly what we did.  We didn't go into each compartmentalized area, but we hesitantly glanced and slowly kept walking. Straight ahead was the bedding that we originally set out to see. So, we took most of our time looking at the various cribs and crib bedding. I must say, there is some really adorable stuff out there; although, I was a little unimpressed by the limited bedding for baby girls.

After comparing what we each liked and getting some ideas, we made our way around the other side of the store... This is when the overwhelming feeling really kicked in...STROLLERS. CAR SEATS. SO MANY OF THEM. OH MY! I didn't know where to begin. Since we were both completely clueless and were basing our judgments on aesthetics alone, we just strolled down each aisle, touching the different car seats to see which ones were soft, lol [ as you can see, we've got a lot to learn]!

Overall, it was a very enlightening experience.  I learned a few things about our experience:
  • Mini malls for babies DO exist!
  • I'm grateful for checklists that lay it all out for me.
  • A convertable crib seems like the best thing that was ever invented...such a good idea and a great investment!
  • We are just going to take things one day at a time when determining what and when to get baby stuff!

first prenatal appointment

We had our first prenatal appointment yesterday and let's just say I was a whirlwind of emotions...I was super excited, but also worried that something may be wrong since I had been cramping on and off.  After doing some online research, the cramps would lead to two possibilities: 1) I had an ectopic pregnancy, which meant the baby was developing in my fallopian tube = not good OR 2) my uterus was contracting and expanding because of the new life it was storing.

I was quite relieved to see that it was #2 and all was well with our baby.  We were able to see the little fetus in my uterus and hear the heart beat! One word...EXCITING! Sean recorded it on his phone, so now we can listen to it whenever we want.  It's fun to have that option since we're still very much in shock and are trying to take in everything that's happened.

Based on my last cycle, the doctor estimated that I was about nine weeks, but based on the size of our little one, it turns out I'm just over seven weeks pregnant! So we have more time to take it all in and enjoy our baby's development along the way.

Here is a picture of our very first meeting with our baby love!

we're having a baby!

If you read my other blog, you probably discovered by now, that the hubs and I are having a baby! We've been married for just over two years [in June] and are now expecting our first child and let me tell you, we could not be more excited!

We're so excited to share the love we have for each other with our baby! So, with all the excitement of finding out we're pregnant, comes all the planning and preparing for our baby love. As the title suggests, this blog is all about discovering this new world and enjoying every minute of it!

Please come along for the ride :)
